Sacramento Attorney Jesse Atwal has a unique interest in complex civil litigation, immigration, personal injury, and real estate law.
Personal Immigration Experience
Jesse Singh Atwal knows well the challenges of immigrants to America. His parents each arrived in the United States in the 1970's. Introduced by their respective families, Jesse's parents settled as farmers in the central Sacramento valley. As a first generation American he learned from an expanded circle of family and friends the challenges of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), now the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Jesse was raised as a farmer's son, learning the importance of the land and hard work. “Our orchards included fruit and nut trees. When it was time for harvest my brother and I worked the fields,” remarks Atwal.
As the family farms expanded from the Yuba City area of Northern California into the San Joaquin valley towns of Merced and Tracy, the need for labor increased. “I worked side-by-side with farm laborers who followed the harvests. I saw the consequences of immigration problems.”
Jesse found the melting pot of people attending the University of California at Davis inspiring. He founded the Punjabi Club of UC Davis to promote friendship and understanding with other communities and help his generation connect to their roots.
The unique perspective of an immigrant's son guided Jesse and affirmed his desire to study law. “As a lawyer you can work for immigrant and individual rights and make a real difference.”
Immigration Law
Mr. Atwal is experienced in preparing, filing and tracking non-immigrant visa petitions (including B-1 visas, E-1, F-1, H-1B, J-1, and L-1 visas), PERM Labor Certification, and immigrant visa petitions administrative appeals in visa cases; writs of mandamus in Federal Court for long-delayed naturalization and adjustment cases pending before the USCIS.
Real Estate Development Law
“Land development in California is amazingly complex with many layers of planning, contracting, land use, environmental impact, and government oversight,” remarks Atwal. A presentation on land development issues at a county supervisor's meeting caught the attention of an area law firm and Atwal was hired virtually on the spot.
At The Law Offices of Bowman|Foos, Mr. Atwal focuses on general civil litigation, real estate land development and contract issues, personal injury, and immigration law including citizenship, visa, children of undocumented immigrants, and legal status representation.
